Position Summary
Ottawa, Hybrid
Thales is looking for a Data Scientist – AI/ML who will be involved in the data analytics and the development of AI/ML models in support of innovation projects that contribute to naval platforms in-service support programs.
As part of the Innovation Team, as a Data Scientist, you will help deliver value to the operational team quickly in an agile and incremental way. More specifically, you will work with business analysts and operational stakeholders to identify problems and find relevant data solutions. The type of solutions could range from implementing data pipelines, building domain-specific data schemas, building AI/ML models, implement dashboards that help with decision making – while using modern development techniques and technologies as well as operations practices.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
Lead data initiatives such as Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) of complex assets, exploitation of unstructured technical data, etc.
Lead technical teams as required.
Design and train AI / machine learning models.
Deploy models in production.
Implement MLOps best practices.
Contribute to data governance initiative such as data landscape.
Contribute data mappings and lineage.
Contribute and validate data quality rules.
Contribute to the definition business cases that involve data exploitation.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science with specialization in AI/ML or related field.
5+ years of experience with data science techniques and toolsets such as Jupyter Notebook, Dataiku.
5+ years of experience with machine learning modeling techniques such as anomaly detection, natural language processing, classification.
3+ years of experience with building end-to-end data pipelines from data ingestion to model value delivery.
Experience with scripting technologies such as Python, R.
Knowledge of agile software engineering methodologies.
Proven problem solving and analytic skills with a desire to learn.
Capable of developing strong relationships across the business through excellent customer service.
Ability to liaise with other AI/ML experts among the Thales Group and leverage their technical expertise.
