Department Overview

The Business Performance team enables Maximus clients and internal teams to make data-driven decisions. Through business intelligence and data analytics, information sharing, and fostering a continuous improvement culture, Business Performance leads programs focused on analytics, learning & development, quality management, and business strategy at Maximus Canada. We are able to achieve this by understanding Maximus Canada’s business, developing our people, improving our processes, and ensuring we stay at the vanguard of business management. Role Summary

The BI Data Engineer will be responsible for working with Maximus clients and internal business teams to provide data analytics services so that the business teams can gain insight and make data-driven decisions. This individual will join the Data & Analytics team to mature our data and analytic capabilities and deliver on service commitmetns. This individual will be expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as assisting the team with designing, building, and implementing data models and reporting in a variety of programs and systems. This individual will also be part of data migration for clients and internal teams. This individual must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. The successful candidate will be excited by meeting the data needs of clients and internal teams.

This role requires the successful candidate to have a solid grasp on successfully working through the ebb and flow of project work as well as possessing the technical competencies to ensure reporting targets as well as departmental key performance indicators (KPI’s) are met. New and emerging workflows, along with detailed client deliverables require the Data Engineer to manage several streams with agility and confidence. An effective Data Engineer is consistent, interactive, communicative and strives to improve the departments’ reporting abilities through collaborative action with their team and management.

Your typical week at Maximus

• You will design data modelling, reporting and to meeting short-term and long-term client needs, with an eye on simplifying business adoption and building a business-friendly data layer tailored for Insights generation and Analytics.
• Deliver data and analytics services including contractual reports, client specific reports, enterprise dashboards, etc.
• Build data models and reports in using tools such as MS Fabric and PowerBI – including scripting of joins and loads, dashboards, variables, expressions, thresholds, and alerting – to meet the needs of Maximus clients and internal teams .Implement innovations such as forecasting, co-pilot and predictive solutions tailored to our business needs, continuous exploring industry innovations in collaboration with other Maximus teams.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and work with Continuous Improvement to lead change.
• Customer focus: ensure strong business relationships are built internally and externally while working on daily activities and project-related initiatives.
• Manage your interactions with clients and colleagues respectfully, collaboratively and professionally to contribute to a harmonious, productive work environment.
• Develop data stewardship and sharing policies and processes to monitor and analyze models, key performance indicators and data results. Recommend quality metrics. Ensure quality metrics are accurately documented and tracked. Creates and resolves data quality tickets, as needed.
• Partner with other functional teams such as Solutions, Technical Services and our data vendors across and outside of the organization to identify unsolved user and business needs resulting in data powered and visualization solutions that scale.
• Planning, managing, and completing project tasks including liaising with client and Maximus Canada teams, gathering information through structured interviews and documentation review, documenting and evaluating existing D&A processes, and performing detailed quality assurance review and feedback on the work of others;
• Provide technical leadership including the coaching of junior staff members and developing their skillsets

• Report non-compliance of policies and procedures, regardless of the cause.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics, advanced statistics or equivalent education and experience;
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in dashboard /report development, PowerBI experience is preferred;
• At least 2 years’ experience creating integrated data models within BI Tools, Microsoft tools, such as Fabric is preferred;
• At least 2 years of specific experience in forecasting models;
• Strong SQL concepts & knowledge (PL/SQL), DBA experience is an asset
• Coding experience with R, Python and next generation BI and AI, an asset;
• Experience with applied statistics and quantitative modeling (e.g. regression, survival analysis, segmentation, experimentation, and machine learning when needed);
• Experience with Genesys Platform database and reporting structure is an asset
• Experience working in project teams and delivering using Agile methodologies
