An administrative assistant, or administrative support specialist, provides a variety of administrative support to an office. Their duties can include:
Managing calendars: Scheduling appointments, meetings, and conferences, and making travel arrangements
Handling communications: Answering phones, taking messages, and responding to emails
Managing documents: Preparing, editing, and maintaining documents, including reports, invoices, and memos
Managing files: Maintaining physical and digital filing systems, and databases
Managing office equipment: Operating and maintaining printers, copiers, and fax machines
Managing logistics: Coordinating meeting logistics, including room setup and catering
Supporting colleagues: Working closely with other administrative staff and supporting colleagues as needed
Administrative assistants can work in many industries, including education, technology, finance, government, legal, and healthcare.
